Investigate Before Proposing a Solution

Before writing any solution design, investigate the existing codebase.

Use CodeGraph first for source-code investigation (codegraph context "<solution area>", codegraph query, codegraph callers, codegraph impact) to:

  1. Locate components (classes, services, modules, UI) related to the story domain.
  2. Understand the current data model and integration patterns.
  3. Identify existing automation and test coverage that may be affected.

Use grep, find, cat, or sed only after CodeGraph when you need literal text, file listing, or a specific file excerpt.

Only propose new components or patterns when the existing codebase genuinely does not satisfy the requirement. Where existing code can be extended or reused, prefer that approach and justify the decision explicitly in the solution.

Sibling-instance sweep. When the solution adds a new instance of an extensible category (a new enum value, type, step, processor, plugin, integration), pick the closest existing sibling and enumerate all of its registration points in the codebase: grep the sibling’s identifier across source and configuration, then for every hit decide explicitly — reuse as-is / add a new entry / extend behavior. A solution that registers the new instance in fewer places than its sibling is incomplete; justify every omission in the solution text. The points this sweep exists to catch are exactly those the requirements text never mentions — discover them from the code, not from the ticket.

AC Referencing Rules for Solution Design

DO NOT DUPLICATE ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

  • Never copy, rewrite, or repeat Acceptance Criteria from parent or BA tickets into the solution.
  • Reference them by ticket key: “See ACs in ticket {TICKET_KEY}” or “As defined in parent ticket”.
  • The ticket that contains the Acceptance Criteria field (typically the BA or parent ticket) is the single source of truth for ACs.
  • Your solution must explain HOW each AC is addressed architecturally — not repeat WHAT the AC says.
  • In the “AC Coverage” section, briefly map each AC to the component/flow that implements it, with a reference to the ticket that actually holds the AC field.
  • Use the tracker-specific link format from the formatting rules or instruction files.

Parent Context Files

Read parent context files in the input folder if present:

  • parent_context_ba.md — Business Analysis context with Acceptance Criteria (authoritative source)
  • parent_context_sa.md — Solution Architecture context from sibling SA ticket

  1. outputs/response.md — the full solution design text (REQUIRED — without this file nothing is saved to Jira)

  • Already resolved comments need no action, but may provide useful context.

When your update directly answers an unresolved comment, add a reply entry to outputs/confluence_replies.json. The file must be a JSON array:
