Overview

dmtools-figma is the focused DMtools package for Figma design-analysis workflows, including file structure inspection, node exports, image extraction, icon discovery, design-token access, team/project discovery, and file comment retrieval.

Endpoints / Config keys

Slash command entrypoint: /dmtools-figma
Core configuration keys: FIGMA_TOKEN, FIGMA_BASE_PATH
Common optional keys: FIGMA_FILE_KEY, node-specific href and nodeId parameters in CLI usage

Minimal usage example

/dmtools-figma inspect a Figma screen, list top-level layers, and extract the exportable icons

dmtools figma_get_layers "https://www.figma.com/file/abc123/Product?node-id=1%3A2"

Team-level “files” listing URLs (e.g. https://www.figma.com/files/<orgId>/team/<teamId>) are not single design files and cannot be passed directly to file-specific tools. Browse them down to an actual file first:

# 1. List projects within a team (accepts a raw team ID or a URL containing /team/<teamId>)
dmtools figma_list_team_projects "https://www.figma.com/files/<orgId>/team/<teamId>"

# 2. List files within a chosen project (accepts a raw project ID or a URL containing /project/<projectId>)
dmtools figma_list_project_files "<projectId>"

# 3. Once you have a single file's URL/key, inspect it as usual
dmtools figma_get_layers "https://www.figma.com/file/<fileKey>/Design"

# Optional: read reviewer feedback left on a file
dmtools figma_get_file_comments "https://www.figma.com/file/<fileKey>/Design"

Compatibility / Supported versions

Compatible with Java 17+ and current DMtools focused skill releases
Uses the Figma API through the standard DMtools token-based configuration pattern

Security & Permissions

Keep Figma personal access tokens in secret storage only
Limit shared design links and downloaded artifacts to the teams that need them
Review whether design files contain confidential roadmap, brand, or customer information before exporting them
